According to data from our GenAI in Legal Benchmarking Report, while 61% of legal departments have some AI access, only 19% feel confident using these tools effectively. Our recent webinar explored why many organizations remain trapped in "pilot purgatory" while a select group achieves meaningful results through strategic implementation and team empowerment.

Our expert panel featured David Mainiero (VP, AI Enablement & Legal Transformation, Factor) alongside industry experts Kelly Clay (Assistant General Counsel, GSK) and Peter Duffy (LegalTech & AI Consultant, Titans), who discussed Factor''s benchmarking data, revealing the critical factors separating successful AI adoption from expensive experiments with minimal ROI.

Some key moments:

David Mainiero identified a fundamental challenge: "We find that these [AI] projects or pilots can consume a lot of resources, create the illusion of progress while delivering little of tangible value... AI adoption is really a human leadership challenge."

Peter Duffy emphasized the importance of targeted implementation: "The first thing is having clearly defined specific use cases that people are experimenting with. Not just general broad strokes exploration, but having really targeted pain points and an awareness of what are the problems that you're looking to solve with introduction of any technology."

Kelly Clay highlighted the power of effective framing: "If you try and personalize it for them, like this AI tool could be like a trainee or an intern and you're going to have to put extra effort in. You're going to have to oversee them, but they can really pay off as you go forward and making it real for them in that way."

This discussion provides essential insights for legal leaders looking to move beyond pilots and into sustainable, high-impact AI implementation that meets the unique needs of your team.
